Welcome to Fairborn Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Welcome to Fairborn Middle School!

It is my honor to welcome you to Fairborn Middle School, home to Fairborn students in grades 6 through 8. My name is Mrs. Reynolds, and I am proud to serve as the head principal of this vibrant and hardworking school community. Everyday, our goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and challenging environment where students are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and personally.

At Fairborn Middle School, we believe in the power of teamwork. Our leadership team is dedicated to supporting students through every step of their middle school journey. Ms. Patrick works closely with our 6th-grade students as they transition into middle school, helping them build confidence and strong learning habits. Mr. Holt supports our 7th graders, guiding them through an important year of development and discovery. Mr. South leads our 8th grade, preparing students for the exciting challenges of high school and beyond. Together, we are committed to meeting the unique needs of every student while celebrating their strengths and accomplishments.

Academics

Our school mission is at the heart of all that we do: to pursue personal and academic excellence, value respectful collaboration, and meet high expectations to achieve success in our chosen paths. We want our students to leave Fairborn Middle School not only with strong academic skills but also with the character and confidence needed to thrive in the future.

We take pride in providing high-quality instruction grounded in proven practices. In English language arts, our teachers use Study Sync along with techniques from the Science of Reading to build strong literacy skills that ensure every student becomes a confident reader. In mathematics, we use the iReady curriculum and focus on developing a deep understanding of math fundamentals, empowering students to apply their knowledge to real-world problem solving. Our science and social studies curriculum allows our students to problem solve and become informed citizens. Our encore classes include interventions for reading and math, art, physical education, logic & problem solving, Spanish, and health. In addition, students have opportunities to explore Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, helping them discover their interests and begin to envision their future careers before high school. CTE courses include Career Connections, Project Lead the Way classes, Medical Detectives, and Introduction to Information Technology.

We also recognize that every student has unique strengths and needs. To support all learners, we offer advanced and accelerated courses for students seeking greater academic challenge, as well as a range of special education services designed to provide individualized support. This commitment to personalization allows every student to grow and achieve at their highest potential.

Portrait of a Skyhawk

At Fairborn Middle School, we believe in preparing our students not only for academic success but also for the challenges and opportunities they will encounter beyond our doors. To do this, we intentionally incorporate the essential skills of adaptability, communication, critical thinking, responsibility, and problem solving into the daily experiences of our students.

Our classrooms are designed to foster adaptability by encouraging students to work through and embrace change, adjust to new learning opportunities, and remain open to multiple perspectives and diverse views. Students practice communication—expressing their ideas clearly, listening respectfully, and engaging in dialogue that strengthens understanding.

We challenge students to use critical thinking in every subject, whether they are analyzing a piece of literature, interpreting data in science, or applying mathematical concepts to real-world problems. Responsibility is modeled and expected as students take ownership of their learning, manage their time effectively, and contribute positively to the school community by adhering to a set of core values. In addition, our lessons and activities consistently promote problem solving, guiding students to apply creativity, persistence, and logic to overcome obstacles.

By embedding these characteristics into academics, extracurricular activities, and daily routines, we ensure that our students are developing into well-rounded learners who are prepared for high school, future careers, and active citizenship. At Fairborn Middle School, we are proud to cultivate these skills so that our students are ready to thrive in any path they choose.

Activities

Outside the classroom, students can enrich their school experience by taking part in a wide range of activities and clubs. Our offerings include athletics, game club, bible club, drama club, National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), Student Ambassadors, student council, art club, social media club, and yearbook. Each year, our 8th-grade students also have the exciting opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., an experience that brings history and learning to life. These activities allow students to connect with peers, explore their passions, and build leadership skills.

Social Emotional Learning

Aligned with our district’s vision, we focus on nurturing the whole child—supporting not only the mind but also social, emotional, and physical well-being. By doing so, we cultivate resilience, responsibility, and a love for lifelong learning that extends far beyond the classroom walls. Our school uses the Second Step curriculum to encourage skills like empathy, emotion management, and relationship building. FMS also has a SMART Lab, which stands for stress management and resiliency training. The SMART Lab is a support to help students learn how to manage stress and to support them in learning coping strategies that can be used in different settings and situations.

As you explore our school, you will see that Fairborn Middle School is a place where students are encouraged to dream big, work hard, and care deeply for one another. We look forward to partnering with families and the community as we prepare our students for a bright and successful future.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Reynolds
Principal, Fairborn Middle School
