Title One Welcome Letter:

October 6, 2025

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to the 2025-2026 School year.  We are excited that Fairborn City Schools is offering a Title I Program.  Strategic assistance and direct services are provided to grade K-8 students at qualifying elementary schools who are at risk of not meeting state standards in the area of reading and/or math. Students are selected to be served based solely on their academic needs. The Title I grant offers our schools a great opportunity to provide targeted assistance to improve outcomes for all children who qualify.

Your child has qualified to receive supplemental Title I instruction. Here are some important aspects of the Title I program:

  • The program allows the students who are struggling with reading or math to practice skills in areas of  their weaknesses.
  • Eligibility is determined based on scores from iReady, Ohio State Tests (when available), and classroom teacher recommendations.
  • No new core instruction takes place in the general education class when your child leaves the class for Title I services. This is NOT a special education service. Students stay within their class for core instruction and go to the Title I instructor for additional review and specific intervention in their areas of weakness.
  • Services may be provided by the Title I teacher in the general education classroom.

Copies of policies related to Title I services are available for review on our district website under Board Policies.

If you have any questions please contact your child’s building Principal, Title I Teacher, Lori Queen, Title I Coordinator ([email protected]), or me.  I can be reached at [email protected].

Have a great school year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Sue Brackenhoff

Description of Services:

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

The Curriculum Department and the Title I Coordinator are responsible for providing the necessary leadership and assistance to schools to ensure that the intent of the legislation is carried out.
Title I, Part A funds are distributed to school districts based on funding formulas as affected by census poverty data. Districts determine which eligible buildings are to participate based on federal requirements and local decisions. School wide buildings may use the funds for school-wide activities intended to improve outcomes across the building. The purpose of this funding is to provide supplemental funding to economically disadvantaged districts and some of their eligible schools for improving educational outcomes for students who are failing or at risk of failing to meet State standards.

In the Fairborn City School District, our two Elementary Schools and Middle School receive Title I Funds and Services. All three schools serve students as school-wide buildings. The major areas of focus for Title I programs are reading and mathematics. The major components of Title I Programs are comprehensive needs assessments, research-based strategies, data-driven decision making for improvement, professional learning, and parental involvement.

Title I provides support and resources to schools; encourages the use of continuous assessment and data-driven educational decision-making; and assists schools in creating the alignment of teacher training, scientifically based strategies, educational best practices, and instructional materials with State curriculum standards.

Please reference Fairborn City Schools Policy 2261 Title I Services, Parents Right to Know and 2261.01.
