Baker Middle School Morning Announcements

December 6, 2023
Everyone looks all nice and comfy in their holiday pajamas today.  Tomorrow is Tree skirt/Holiday apron day.  Wear your favorite tree skirt or holiday apron.
Reminder: There will be NO Drama Club after school tomorrow.  Please continue to turn in permission slips and fees to Mr. Stickford.  All fees and permission slips are due next Thursday, December 14th.  If you do not turn them in, you will be removed from the club.
The National Junior Honor Society will be sponsoring a Winter Dance in the Baker fieldhouse Friday, Dec. 15th from 4:00-6:00pm.  Tickets will be sold during Access the week of Monday, Dec 11th thru Thursday, Dec 14th for $5.  There will be no ticket sales at the door, and only Baker students are allowed to attend the dance.  Students will only be allowed to purchase 1 ticket for themselves.  Students who have received ISI or OSS during the month of December will not be eligible to buy a dance ticket.  Students must also have their OneView completed to buy a ticket.
Today's lunch: Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, peppers & onions, broccoli/dip, fruit, and milk

Your principals are challenging you to achieve success by trying your best.  This week you can earn extra ROCKS points by participating in class & completing all of your classwork.
Today starts the "12 Days of Holiday Spirit".  To kick off the holiday spirit today we are wearing our most festive socks.  Tomorrow we will "Deck the Halls" by wearing your favorite holiday accessories.  Be creative by wearing lights, bells, or garland to show your holiday spirit.

The Baker winter dance will be held Friday, December 15th.  Be sure to listen to announcements for more information on ticket sales.  In order to be eligible to purchase tickets you cannot have been assigned ISI or OSS in the month of December.

Attention Skyhawks: We will have our annual canned food drive starting next week, from December 4th to December 15th.  The purpose of this food drive is to help supply our Hawks Pantry.  Please turn in your canned food donations to your ACCESS class.  The Access at each grade level that donates the most will win donuts!  If we can collect 1000 items BUILDING WIDE, the principals will be pied during the reward day on December 19th!  All it takes is 1 item per individual to make this happen!

Attention 7th and 8th grade boys wanting to play basketball: Tryouts begin Monday in the Fieldhouse from 2:45-4:15. YOU MUST BE ALL GREEN in Final Forms to be able to try out. This includes your physical. Please see Mr. Grimpe or Mr. Stapleton of you have any questions.

At the end of 2nd period today, those 8th graders who are attending the PLTW field trip should report to the Baker Cafe with only their packed lunches.  All other belongings need to stay here at school in your lockers.  You cannot take your belongings with you.

Baker will be having a costume party tomorrow.  The cost will be $1 to participate and NO masks or face paint are allowed. You must still follow school dress code rules.
Thank you staff & students for a great fall dance on Friday.  Behavior was great at the dance which means we will be able to continue to have more events like this throughout the year.

**UPDATE**  Girls basketball tryouts for tonight (10/27) has been rescheduled for Tomorrow, 10/28 at the High School from 10am to noon.
There will be an announcement made this morning about buying dance tickets for tonight's dance.  Everyone did not have an opportunity to purchase them yesterday so we are going to give you one more chance to buy yours.

Any 7th or 8th grader interested in wrestling this year, there will be a quick meeting during Access TOMORROW. Please make sure you have final forms and a physical all set for the season-so that you will be able to participate!

Staying drug free means investing in your current and future health.  Tomorrow's theme is "Don't Get Mixed Up in Drugs".  Wear mismatched clothing.
Girls from the Outdoor Adventure club going to Young's Dairy today, please meet in Room 203E after school. Permission slips are required.
There will be NO Open Gym for girls basketball this week.  Tryouts are on Friday.

Fall dance tickets are on sale this week during Access.  Tickets will not be sold on Friday.  The dance will take place this Friday, Oct. 27th from 4-6pm.   The cost is $5.  Remember you cannot purchase a ticket if you have been assigned ISI or OSS during the month of October.  Your OneView must also be complete.  You also may not purchase a ticket for another student.  Feel free to wear costumes.  Masks must be removed to enter and no look-a-like weapons allowed.

*UPDATE* There will be NO Open Gym for girls basketball this week.  Tryouts are on Friday.
7th and 8th grade girls basketball tryouts start this Friday Oct. 27th at the intermediate from 3:30-5:00.  All those wanting to tryout need to make sure their physicals and final forms are up-to-date.
"Be Kind to Your Mind, Live Drug Free" is this year's Red Ribbon theme.  By being drug free, you are sending a message to yourself and others about how much you value yourself, your health, and your future.  Tomorrow's theme is "Team Up Against Drugs" wear your favorite team jersey.
Reminder to Girls from Outdoor Adventure club, if you are going to Young's Dairy tomorrow, please make sure you have your permission slips turned in.

Red Ribbon week starts on Monday.  This year's red ribbon theme is "be kind to your mind, live drug free".  Monday is "sock it to drugs", so wear your crazy socks!

BOYS wanting to play basketball: Due to high numbers, today's open gym will be 8th grade only from 2:45 to 4:00.  7th grade will go on Tuesday next week.
Tomorrow we will be having our Quarter 1 Reward Day.  A few reminders: 
-The only thing you will need is your chromebook
-If you earned Reward Day concessions will come around during your movie.  All items cost $1.
-You will still report to 1st period to begin the day.

Art Club members: We will have a meeting today until 3:45 in Ms. Garnai's room 136.  You must have your permission slip signed and a ride home in order to attend.

Just a reminder, all NJHS applications are due this FRIDAY, October 20th by the end of the school day.  Applications need to be turned into Mr. Cummings in Room 204E or the Baker office.  Late applications will NOT be accepted. Please contact Mr. Cummings with any other questions.

Girls Outdoor Adventure Club will meet tomorrow after school in Room 203E until 3:45.  Please turn in registration to join, and permission slips for Young Dairy Corn Maze, Map and Compass Hike, and Spooky Science Night at Wittenberg.
Your principals are challenging you to earn extra ROCKS points this week by demonstrating your knowledge & having all of your materials for class.  Make sure you have paper, pencils, & charged chromebooks all week.  This can earn you extra points!
Congratulations to Ms. Keeton's 3rd period class for great behavior last week for your sub.  Ms. Patrick will be by with "The Prize Wheel".
