There are more than 1.6 million military children who face many challenges and unique
experiences as a result of their parents’ service. While military members serve around the world, we often forget the challenges faced by their children. Military families move, on average, every two to three years impacting children through changing schools and support networks. Each year, the DOD joins national, state and local government, schools, military serving organizations, companies and private citizens in celebrating military children and the sacrifices they make.
A few Facts about Military Families:
  • There are 1.6 million military connected children.
  • Over 523,000 are school aged
  • Over 2 million US children have a parent who served in Iraq or Afghanistan
  • The average military family moves every 2-3 years
  • Deployments typically last one year.
  • Sometimes, both military parents get deployed at the same time.
  • The average military child will change schools 6-9 times.
  • Military children are twice as likely to join the military as civilian children.                           Please join us next week as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child.  Monday is State wide Purple up day.  We hope to see a lot of Purple on Monday.
