Fairborn Athletic Hall of Fame announced

FAIRBORN – The Fairborn Athletic Hall of Fame has announced its list of inductees for the ceremony scheduled for Sept. 11 at the Fairborn High School Performing Arts Center.

Barry K. Hall

Barry Hall was four-time letter winner, two each in baseball and football.

He was a catcher and third baseman for Fairborn’s ‘70 and ‘71 seasons. The 1970 team was Western Ohio League Champions, going 9-0 with a combined two-year record of 42-14.

Hall was also an offensive guard, and played middle guard and linebacker. He received a full scholarship to play college football at New Mexico State University, lettering two years as an offensive guard. Hall then transferred to Central State University in 1974 where, as a starter, he lettered twice playing in 22 games. In 1974, Hall was NAIA First Team All-District and All-Regional, and in 1975 NAIA honorable mention All American. He was inducted into the Central State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.

Ron Estepp

Ron Estepp lettered twice as the starting shortstop for the 1969 and 1970 Fairborn Flyers. The 1970 team was undefeated in league play, going 9-0 in winning the Western Ohio League Baseball Championship. Estepp was voted All-Western Ohio League First Team shortstop in 1970.

He was on the first baseball team at Wright State University, playing third base, shortstop and second base in 1971. His business, Ron Estepp Continous Gutter, was created in 1991 and has been a part of Fairborn’s July 4th parade 20 years. The company donates time and labor to senior citizens and handicapped persons.

The Hall of Fame wrote in a news release that Estepp has been continually involved in Fairborn-area sports such as Fairborn Little League, Wee Hawks and Fairborn City School sports by way of purchasing uniforms, practice gear for softball and boys’ basketball and football. The Skyhawk Arena drop down American flag is his latest and most continuing donation.

Jarrod Smith

Jarrod Smith was a four-time letter winner, two each in football and basketball.

Playing football offensive guard and defensive tackle his junior year, Smith secured honorable mention Mid-Miami League and All- League team.

Smith was also chosen by his coaches for the Skyhawk Award in addition to being named First Team Mid-Miami League and Second Team All-Southwestern District. Additionally, Smith was a member of the CBS Midwest team, the Top 10 Offensive Lineman Ranking Midwest and was nominated to “Army of One” All-America Team. Smith was chosen to play in the Ohio North-South Classic game and the White-Allen North-South Pigskin Classic.

Smith was recruited by eight D-I universities. Indiana University was his selection to play offensive guard and center before moving to the defensive line as senior.

Smith also lettered in basketball as a junior and senior. The 2005-06 Skyhawks were Mid-Miami League North Division Co-Champions, Sectional Champions and District Runner-up. Smith was awarded the Skyhawk Award and is now FHS faculty while being an assistant football coach.

Sophia Stoffel

Sophia Stoffel earned 10 letters during her high school career, including four each in softball and competition cheer, and two for volleyball.

Stoffel played second base and pitched, receiving the following awards: Greater Western Ohio Conference South Division special mention in 2010; South Division First Team in 2011 and 2012; Southwest District Softball Coaches Association All-Star in 2012; and the Delores Billhardt Scholarship Southwest District in 2012.

She was the 2012 team captain and was an instrumental pitcher in that season. The team went on a 14-game winning streak to capture the Wayne Sectional and District championships, losing in a 13-inning regional semi-final game. Stoffel received the Coaches Awards for Best All Round Player, 2011-12, and the Skyhawk Athletic Excellence Award in 2011-12.

Stoffel holds school softball records for the fewest walks per game at .87 and most wins in a season at 21. Her competition cheer accomplishments include team captain in 2012, GWOC South Division Second Team in 2011 and First Team in 2012. The 2011 and 2012 teams were state qualifiers.

FHS Girls Varsity Basketball Team 2012-2013

The team was victorious winning the GWOC South Division with a perfect 10-0 record alongside a winning percentage of 88% in going 22-3, with a season-ending loss in the district finals. They set the current school record for 22 wins in a season and number of consecutive wins at 15.

Coached by South Division Coach of the Year Steve Hannaford, individual player awards include: Alexis Gassion, First Team All-GWOC, First Team South Division, South Division Athlete of the Year and Honorable Mention All-Ohio. Kayla Patterson, Katie Profitt and Dominique Redmon were named to the South Division Second Team.

Team Members include Krisse Bennett, Alexis Gassion, Kierston Keeton, Stephanie Mosher, Kayla Patterson, Kattie Profitt, Dominique Redmon, Nia Rivers, Allie Roberts and Lizzie Wilson. Manager Logan Snow, and assistant coaches Smith and Harchick.

Festivities begin with a meet and greet at the high school’s Great Hall at 5 p.m. followed by the induction ceremony at 6 p.m.
