January is "School Board Recognition Month" and we honored our Board members at the January meeting. Each school provided special gifts for Board of Education members and the district welcomed new board member, John Howard, who replaces Jerry Browning. Katie Mlod was sworn in as President and Wendy Landon will serve as Vice-President. Katie Mlod and Tim Steininger were both re-elected to serve. We are thankful for a strong board whose focus on our school community will keep the district moving forward with purpose.
The Fairborn City School District welcomes new Board of Education member, John Howard, who will be replacing Jerry Browning who resigned January 1, 2026. Mr. Howard has been appointed to serve
the remainder of the term of Jerry Browning. John Howard serves the Fairborn community as a Lieutenant Paramedic with the Fairborn Fire Department. He has served as a volunteer for the Fairborn Fly Zone, 9/11 Memorial Committee, Scout Troop 72 and 182 Merit Badge Counselor. He has served as a church volunteer and volunteered with Fairborn Parks and Recreation. He also volunteered with youth basketball.
John is deeply invested in the Fairborn community as a parent of two children who attend Fairborn City Schools and believes that strong schools are the foundation of a strong community. He is comitted to policies that promote student achievement, staff professionalism, fiscal responsibility, and safe learning environments. His background includes extensive experience in organizational leadership, labor management collaboration, municipal budgeting, and strategic decision making. John and his wife, Meghan, have two children who attend Fairborn City Schools.
