What it is: A 5.83 mill tax levy request to build a new high school on land purchased by a generous private donation from a Fairborn Flyer Alumnus ($2.5 million on Commerce Center Blvd. (east of I-675) and an athletic complex, performing arts center, and with space to build a future middle school when funding becomes available from the State of Ohio.

The Need: Both the Fairborn High School and Baker Middle School were recommended by the State of Ohio, through their comprehensive facilities study, to be replaced with new buildings because they were outdated, had major issues, and the cost to repair was too much as compared to building new. (The same process as was used to replace Fairborn Primary and Intermediate buildings.) Baker was built in 1950 and has infrastructure issues, is not climate controlled, does not support technology, and learning spaces need updated.

Community Surveyed: The Fairborn community, through consistent surveying and community forums, supports addressing the health and safety of the remaining two buildings to provide a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for both middle school and high school students.

It will Maximize State monies: Because of the cost of the buildings, FCS will build a new high school first and utilize the current high school for a middle school for a few years. The State of Ohio will pay for 46% of the basic construction for a new high school and middle school (the same as the Primary and Intermediate). If the levy passes,  the State of Ohio is committed to providing Fairborn Schools with $33 million which will be used to construct a new middle school when the money becomes available.

The Cost: For the average home in Fairborn valued at $120,000, the cost would be less than $5.00 a week, $20 per month, or $245 annually.
