Fairborn seeks community input on finances
The Fairborn City School District is pleased to announce the creation of a Fairborn Schools Citizen Financial Review Committee. This committee is being created to invite members of the public to get a better understanding of school finance overall and specifically the finances of the Fairborn Schools. Volunteers are encouraged to join and it is expected that this group would meet quarterly, once every three months, with no more than one hour of meeting time guaranteed.

According to Fairborn School Treasurer/CFO Kevin Philo, a typical meeting would include reviewing the monthly financial report and short and long-term financial projections, updates on state school funding, and a review of business practices that could be utilized by the school district. It is anticipated that a group of 15 to 20 Fairborn citizens would be joined by the Treasurer, Superintendent, a School board Member, and representatives of the different employee associations to learn more in depth about the finances of the Fairborn Schools and have lively discussions about how schools are funded and how their money is spent. Meetings will probably be held the third Monday of the month starting at 6:00 pm, ending promptly at 7:00 pm, and be at the Board of Education building.

If anyone is interested in serving on this important committee or getting more information, they are asked to contact the Treasurer Kevin Philo at 878-3961 or email him at [email protected]. Please include a short bio or resume so the school district can get a good representation of all facets of the Fairborn Community. Creation of this committee is another step that the schools are taking so its citizens can fully understand the Fairborn Schools finances and the school district’s commitment to assure taxpayer accountability and maintaining financial credibility.
