Message from Superintendent, Gene Lolli December 16, 2020

December 16, 2020
Dear Fairborn family,

The district leadership and all staff realize that this time has been very stressful for parents and families as we have worked together to provide the best educational choices possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. We realize that even with several options, the entire situation has been very hard on our families who are trying to plan, work and support their children’s education.

With the holidays quickly approaching, the district leadership team, with guidance from Greene County Public Health, made the decision to extend Remote learning from January 4th through the 22nd.  Per public health guidance, the health department is encouraging families to avoid gatherings with friends and families outside your household.  With the holiday season, FCS cannot mandate what our families do in their free time but we are concerned that there may be outbreaks due to the holiday and travel following our time off.  The safety and health of our staff and students is of the utmost importance to all of us in the district. Per the district plan shared in November, a decision was to be made (regarding 2nd semester) while taking the current COVID-19 situation into consideration with guidelines from public health. We also want to make sure that we have passed the critical period for cross contamination between current traditional students and the new traditional students who will be joining us in the buildings starting second semester. We will have students who have not been in the building all year joining us January 25th. We want everyone to stay safe, healthy and in school.    Again, this message is very important and we want to make sure that our parents understand the “why” behind the decision.

When the 2nd semester begins on January 25, 2021, students will be attending school based on their choice selection made in OneView.  FCS will continue to work to provide the best education possible for all of our students. Again, the district leadership team does not take this lightly and many hours are spent planning, communicating and trying to think of every detail so that our parents and students have all the information they need to make informed decisions. While we may not answer all of your questions, we encourage you to continue to contact your building administrator or reach out to district leadership.

We hope that you enjoy the holiday season with your families. We hope that you stay safe and healthy. Again, this information is important and we know that YOU, our families have so much to contend with and have been working with since March.
Thank you for your continued support and we will continue to work together for our students. We can’t wait for the day when all children are back in the buildings for school-and teachers are teaching and parents can be parents!

Happy Holidays!
Gene Lolli
