This course is open to juniors and seniors only. This course is designed to help students refresh or improve their skills in math, reading, and writing so they will be academically prepared for college-level course work. This course is taught by a Sinclair Community College staff member who will provide guidance and support as students use an individualized computer-based program to complete the curriculum.
Career Development

Prerequisite: Keyboarding/Computer Applications is recommended
This course is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors only. Students will explore numerous aspects of career development and exploration, such as identifying employability skills and behaviors, developing decision-making and goal-setting skills, completing self-assessments, planning for post-secondary education and/or training, and analyzing the relationship between educational achievement and career planning. Resource speakers from various career disciplines and educational institutions are an integral part of this course.
Newspaper I

Prerequisites: English 9 and English 10
Requirement: Course Application
This course is designed to teach students the responsibilities and skills necessary to produce a high school newspaper. Concentration will be on all aspects of news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, and in-depth news stories. Considerable emphasis will be placed on advertising sales, layout and design, proofreading, interviewing, and the laws and ethics of journalism. This course is not offered for English credit.
Newspaper II
1 Credit
Prerequisites: English 9, English 10, and Newspaper I
Requirement: Course Application
Students who enroll in Newspaper II are responsible for writing, financing, and producing the high school newspaper. Students are expected to take leadership roles and complete all the requirements of being on the newspaper staff. This course is not offered for English credit.
Urban Appalachian Outreach and Studies
½ Credit
Prerequisites: None
This course is open to juniors and seniors only. This course provides mentor training to high school students through Sinclair Community College course work. Students, in turn, work in local elementary schools where they assist elementary school teachers, help children with homework, and provide tutoring services.
Yearbook I

Prerequisites: English 9 and English 10
Requirement: Course Application
Students who enroll in this course are responsible for the publishing, editing, and financing of the yearbook. The yearbook records the history of the school year and the people who were involved in that year’s activities. Staff members plan the layout of the yearbook, design pages on computers, solicit advertising, do research, and write stories. This course is not offered for English credit.
